Carnival Report

Although there were fewer entries to Carnival this year, the Parade itself went well; there was a happy atmosphere and plenty of spectators at the assembly field in the Sports Club and through the village. We were very pleased with the standard of costumes and the imaginative creations, and at least the weather was kind! Once again, Liz and John Brunskill provided us with a beautifully decorated Land Rover to carry the Princesses.
We were especially pleased to welcome last year's Grand National winner Many Clouds, who brought his handler down to the assembly fields to see us. Thank you both, and many thanks to his trainer, Oliver Sherwood, for this special treat.
Thank you also to all the Street Marshalls and everybody who helped on the field; to Liz and John Brunskill; to our husbands Pete and Bob; and to the Sports Club for hosting the event, and in particular to the steward Normal Hillier for his hard work.
We know that building a float and making the costumes is a time consuming exercise and we are very grateful to everyone who took part in the parade. And if you thought that it was a little thin on the ground this year, then why not think about taking part yourself next year?
Actually the Committee also does a lot of work behind the scenes which people don't always think about and I would like to mention just some of it - arranging insurance, purchasing the rosettes, gathering in the trophies from last year's winners, booking bands and First Aid cover, sorting the statutory road closures with WBC and organising the marshalls - not to mention raising the funds to pay for all this, through the Raffle and sponsorship.
So, well done everybody!
Final accounts should be settled by late October and we will report the full list of sponsors and donations then. If you or your organisation would like to be considered for a grant from the Festival proceeds please contact The Secretary, 9 Mill Lane, Lambourn.
